Communicating via Blog

This digital blog is a new form of your own journal. You can upload your pictures, videos, things you have seen at a daily basis via internet. However, writing blog requires a sense of persistent which I solely have. the purpose of writing blogs is to reinforce my memory of what I have learned, what i have seen, and what I have thought in the past day. Or in other words, blog entries are meant to record literately of what i have experienced "todays" via internet. Yet, this is just a very basic blog entry.

At a more complex level of e-blog, I can interact with others and share our thought with each other and so I can learn from others. It is true that internet and improvements of technology enable us to connect with each other at a very effective way. I gain more confidence when people do reply my blogs and they do buy my ideas. Also, I also notice that those replies can lead me to think deeper and eventually I might be able to think outside of my little world like, "hm.. That works too. Never thought of that before!!" I would definitely keep tracking of what other classmates have post and our professor's blogs (HIS BLOGS ARE DEFINITELY  WORTH TO READ AND KEEP TRACKING!!).

Group activities already impressed me a lot that i can never forget. Our blogs then organize and summarize what I have done in group activities. this really reinforces my memory. For online assignments, all we need is discipline and time management. Therefore, the blog should remain a component of this course. What I would suggest is that we should leave comments to different people at a fixed numbers. I would love to discuss some hot topics that recently happen on the news about businesses or economy. Since this class is about management, may be we can get to read some real stories in business management (that would be interesting).

I am an influence type of person?

Compare to the rest D,S,and C, I do think that I am more  an "I" person and so the test is actually right. there is one advantage of being "I" person in my experience, this type of person tends to more advantage than others in the same job position. Why? because my boss trusts me and my co-workers would like to work with me. In order to get things done efficiently, trust and mutual understanding are the key in team playing.
However I would combine "I" with "C" because I lack of details and persistent. Once i have these two characters, i can become type "C" person.
It is very helpful to know which type of person people especially when you are dealing with whole bunch of people in a big project. i can communicate with them smoothly.
It is very important for me to have good communication skills because lack of communications could make me isolated from other people (i hate isolation).
Lastly, from this test, i understand more about myself on what advantages i need to strengthen and develop and what disadvantages I  have that need to correct. Once I  strengthen my advantages, I can get through all the hard times in job fields.

VISions of my future

I have so many visions about my future and they are all related into one final goal that is to become an owner of a multi business company.
my first vision is to have a mid level supermarket. Since I have networks with many brands of food distributors that they can provide me many different kinds of products. Before i get to this level, I need three things. First was massive capital that i can afford in investing and i need other investors to back me up. Second, I need an extremely good credit report that is not just relying on my credit scores. the credit report would count how much estates I have. lastly, I need to have someone who can teach me how to run this business.
my second business is to own a hair salon because i like to cut and color hair. I had worked in salon for 5 years as my part time job (quit my p/t job 6 months ago).
my ultimate goal is to have  franchise businesses on both areas that i have mentioned above. Only close relationships and family members can join in this game. From my point of view of vision of future, I have to have persistent, passion, and the most important is hard working. To form a large scale enterprise, valuable human resources are the key in managing the multi business company because good managements can expand my business. In business strategy, I would form a training system to promote employees who work in my company for a long time rather than to promote outsiders (to hire somebody from other firms). this way, employees will have a closer relationship with their boss and they will have loyalty to their company.

I feel like I am a compromiser

At beginning, I did not even think of being a leader or any title when i came up. It was just because I lost my patient when people started asking for some "Unreasonable" things and time had not much left. in addition, the first guy who came up in the front was really lonely and he was getting panic.  After i came up there, the perspective was very different than when i was sitting in the back. I felt like i was the one who was freezed.
Later, there was one person in the room who rejected all our proposals because he was pretty satisfied of his curved grade. Since Professor said that he would only accept 100%-agreed plan, so there was no way we could skip or ignore that man's rejection. Moreover, there was one lady who just rejected everything we had said, she said " I just did not like it". A deeper meaning of her reason was because people did not even give her a chance to speak her thoughts whiles many others were arguing, complaining with no respect (may be little). then i realized that there were many people who did not even have a chance to speak up their thoughts. Why would i choose compromising is because to get things passed more effectively, the efficient way is to unite all people in the group especially when the group was so large. Then we can make decisions with much less conflict. Those decisions will benefit and satisfy everyone (unless someone is greedy). When small number of people in the group are not satisfied enough, then i choose collaborating method. We will bargain and negotiating back and forth till they agree on the main plan.
Indeed, i saw many people were disengaged from our group discussion. because the classroom was just too noisy. So next time i will firstly talk to leaders and set up some rules in the stage of planning. For instance, everyone has 1 minute to speak up their mind. While they are talking, their speaking shall not be interrupted or stopped by anyone others with any reason (he or she will be muted for the rest of the discussion). More importantly, everyone shall treat others with respect during the discussion and team leaders have to make sure everyone will have a chance to talk. Finally, we vote for whole bunch of objects/suggestions/proposals whatever we agree or not and come up with final solution that represents the whole group's idea.

The "Unbreakable Egg"

Step 1, my group and I did actually go through these processes. We had no clue how to protect the egg nicely with "8 straws" (you kidding me!?!). then two teammates proposed two different form. first, a "Sexy lady" (forgot her name) proposed to get two straws taped and then make a shell/basket with 6 straws. Our second plan, Rachel proposed  to just rap all straws and form a cubic (a rectangular cubic) and place the egg in middle of the cubic  with 2 ft long tap.
In step 2, then Rachel and the "Sexy lady" had argument. We  even talked about how the acceleration, gravity effect the impact when the egg hit on the ground. however, the rest of the team was buying the "Sexy lady' proposal. Meanwhile Rachel was still insisting that her plan was better.
In step 3, I said, "we needed more options to back up our plan". I started thinking about Rachel's plan. afterward, Rachel teared off one lose leave paper and try to make her rectangular cubic. I then said, " we had limited straws, we could not really do a rectangular cubic" and then i suggested if we could make it a cubic of triangle with a squared base. In step, I then proposed to combine both the "Sexy lady" and Rachel's ideas with my further suggestion.
In step 4, the team was united after a few arguments and discussions. Our tactical plan was to tap two straws that connected to our basket, and the two straws extended the length to have our object ( the egg) less impact to the ground when we dropped it. We made double basket to reinforce our shell. two straws like inner basket to hold the egg and connect with 4 straws outer shell and the doubled-shell was connected with two straws.
Step 5, one of our guy named our plan "unbreakable egg". Our final production was ready to be tested. We all seem confident about our tactical plan.
At the end, we made it. However, then there was a sad moment at the end. I forgot to WRITE OUR names on the proposal!!! It was my responsibility that I forgot such the most important and the most basic part of this plan, to give our self credits!! I apologize to you guys. and I am really thankful  for the team's contribution.

Differences between Chinese and American culture

Although Hong Kong was colonized by Britan for over hundred years, many people still remain old Chinese traditions. Today, I still remember the way  my elementry school teachers treated me when i had done something "seriously bad" from their point of view. For instant, at my third grade of elementry school, if I did bad on exams or if i missed any homeworks, he would either hit my hand hardly with his big, thick, and hard-made plastic ruler or twist my ear into "different shapes" than my origianl shape which was painful (this kind of tradition hopefully does not exist anymore).  In the U.S., my years of high school, perhaps to any grade, any form of physical punishments is not allowed. Also, as a student in Hong Kong, you barely see students talking with their teachers like friends. However, in here, teachers are like friends and teachers more than just teachers. One big difference in schools between Hong Kong and China is that students in Hong Kong have to bow in humble reverence to teachers but in the U.S., they do not need to bow in reverence. In H.K., when your teachers are pointing out and correcting your mistakes or some behaves, you can not look into their eyes directly because that is disrespectful, instead, you should look downward. In the U.S.,  In the public, if you live in Hong Kong long enough, you will notice that no one will hold doors for the following person. However, in the U.S., people will hold doors for the following person.
